Stantec

  • Location:

  • Edmonton, Alberta

  • Project:

  • South Light Rail Transit (LRT)  Extension

  • Benefits:

  • Utilizing laser scanning allows complete surveys to be done without ever having to be on the road surface. The laser data shows lane markings, man-hole locations and drainage, as well as the exact location of curb and gutter.

  • Technology:

  • Leica HDS3000

  • Challenge:

  • Laser scanning was used for interlacing the design of the south LRT extension over Whitemud Freeway in Edmonton along 111 Street. The challenge for Stantec was to gather accurate and complete data in the high traffic area of a major transportation artery, as well as on the underside of existing bridges.

  • Point Geomatics' Solution:

  • Point Geomatics collected the necessary data safely, without disrupting traffic and showed the existing roads and bridges in one data set.
