  • Challenge:

  • The refinery was originally designed and constructed in the 1930s, with countless refitting and modifications being made to the original site over the past 80 years. The modifications have updated the refinery to current standards for demand and technology. As a result, the as-built drawings and subsequent data were extremely inaccurate.

  • Point Geomatics' Solution:

  • Consumers Co-operative Refinery was an early adopter of laser scanning, and has realized significant benefits from the technology over the years. During a major upgrade project, Point Geomatics was able to help the company dramatically reduce field welds and re-work on the project. Due to the accuracy of the scans, the prefabricated parts fit with a degree of accuracy the engineers had not experienced previously. This resulted in extensive cost and time savings to Consumers Co-operative.
